Basic Manuscript Illumination – September 4

September 4 @ 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Yes, you can do the pretty medieval illustrations used in documents, awards and announcements!

Supplies:
pencil with good eraser, waterproof fine black ink pen, (005 Micron are good) ruler, x-acto knife for paint/ink error correction. a white plastic or foam plate for paints I will be providing paper and a squirt of paints.

If you have a set of gouache (opaque watercolor) paint, bring it. Reeves brand at the local craft store is about $10 for small beginner set. Recommend a multi-well palate with lid to squeeze a little of the colors onto.

Gold leaf -aside from cost -adds whole levels of complexity and I find it not worth the effort for most applications. If you can afford it, and plan to continue doing illumination in the future, hop online and invest in a good pearl gold gouache by Holbein, Schmenke, or similar (about $15 for a 5 ml tube).

Teacher bribe/class snacks: Something crunchy and healthy that won’t get grease on the paper and resist the paint.
