Yes, you can do the pretty medieval illustrations used in documents, awards and announcements!
pencil with good eraser, waterproof fine black ink pen, (005 Micron are good) ruler, x-acto knife for paint/ink error correction. a white plastic or foam plate for paints I will be providing paper and a squirt of paints.
If you have a set of gouache (opaque watercolor) paint, bring it. Reeves brand at the local craft store is about $10 for small beginner set. Recommend a multi-well palate with lid to squeeze a little of the colors onto.
Gold leaf -aside from cost -adds whole levels of complexity and I find it not worth the effort for most applications. If you can afford it, and plan to continue doing illumination in the future, hop online and invest in a good pearl gold gouache by Holbein, Schmenke, or similar (about $15 for a 5 ml tube).
Teacher bribe/class snacks: Something crunchy and healthy that won’t get grease on the paper and resist the paint.
