May 23 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

An Illuminated manuscript is a manuscript in which the text is supplemented with decoration such as Large capital letters, intricate borders and most include reflective surfaces in gold to catch the light. (Hence illumination)

Our Seneschal, THL Elizabeth Thielman. will be teaching us this fine art!

Materials Needed:
Mechanical or very fine pencil
Magic Rub or similar Eraser
Fine tipped black waterproof ink pen (Micron .005 or similar)
Gouache – Reeves makes a nice beginner set.
Gold Gouache – Holbein or similar pearl gold gouache*or shell gold if you want to get really spendy
A painters palette with mixing wells/cover would be helpful.
Fine Brushes
Water cup

*Gold gouache made with mica flakes is the most stable. Metal flakes (save actual gold) will tarnish over time. You will spend as much for a single tube of a quality gold gouache as for a complete set of Reeves) around 10-15 dollars.

Come even if you don’t have everything. We have some spares.

The handout is extensive, and some is in color, so please bring a couple bucks to defray the copying cost. or dark chocolate. chocolate is good – coated chocolates like M&Ms can be shared and consumed while painting.
